Wonder if You’ll Survive?! 21/10/23

After the storms of Friday, a couple of regulars were unable to make it due to cancelled trains, but the sun actually came out on the day of the event. Bangor didn’t get hit as hard as some of the other locations across North Wales,

To our surprise, the roof had been fixed since last time, and there was nothing to clear up/no leaks! Phew!

We got set up and were ready for 11am. We had sweets and the usual mini cookies/soft drinks for people to help themselves to.

We got new release “Super Mario Bros Wonder” straight on the big screen, and Dylan had a go on his own version while it was still quiet.

Once the majority of people had arrived, we sorted out Mario Kart League Round 1. There was a smaller number 8, so a simple 2 groups of 4.

John had the worst luck: Whenever he was first, everyone seemed to either have red shells or a blue shell!
The first round was the “spooky” one: 1. Twisted Mansion 2. Bone Dry dunes 3. GBA Boo Lake 4. Sweet Sweet Canyon (Trick or Treat!)

The characters were limited to: King Boo, Dry Bones, Dry Bowser, Shy Guy or Kamek.

The second group made us chuckle, because that was 3 Kameks vs a Dry Bowser!

In the other room, we saw some Smash Brothers, and then Ultimate Chicken Horse.

Throughout the day, Kyle had brought a screen, and we saw Mario Wonder, Wheel of Fortune and then some ninja turtles.

Paul also had a smart little screen which he was playing solo on.

Dylan, Rhys and John got a quick few rounds of Bomberman R2 in.

Then they got in another short session on Wonder.

Vampire Survivors was the main “tournament” this time. We kept it simple with single elimination because some rounds could take a while! It was a “for fun” tournament, but quite a few people wanted to see this game for the spooky month.

One round could last up to half an hour, but the group who took the longest took around 15-20 minutes.

We went from 9 to 3, and the final found took nearly the full half an hour!

No one was dying!

Just as one person nearly died, they got their health back. We were getting into the last 5 minutes and suddenly they were surrounded. Dead. (We had to work out who died last!)

In the other room, we also saw a good variety of games, including Zelda, Puyo Puyo Tetris, and some more Smash.

Round 2 of Mario Kart League was the “normal” round – any settings, random tracks.

Glyn got taken out in the earlier round and was on 3 points, so it was only Rhys and Em with the top 5 by the second round. There was no tie breaker needed, because the RNG had assigned them both to the same group. Em took the victory (again) but because they’d amassed a collection of Luigi Hats, they offered this month’s hat to the raffle.

Cat won the hat, and exclaimed “Well, this is the only way I’m gonna get one!”

We finished off the event with the raffle and group photo, but not before Jen got in a 4 player session on Trombone Champ. Hilarious as ever! (both to play and listen to!)
We tried the IR motion first, but quickly reverted back to “tilt” controls…

And of course we had our group photo.

Thanks to the girl who took the photo for us 🙂

a group photo of most of the people who attended this month's event. The raffle prize winners are showing off their prizes.

Of course this event marked the penultimate session for the league. Next Event (18th November) will determine our winners for this year. John is guaranteed third, and it’s between Glyn and Em for 1st and 2nd, Between Glyn and Em, ONE of them MUST get 10 points. If they both get 10 there would need to be a tie breaker and if they both come lower than first, there will also need to be a tie breaker. The tie breaker would happen at the Christmas Event (16th December).
No pressure, guys! 😛

There may be some video footage posted at a later date.
