We had a slightly unsteady start, as Dylan had to go back home to fetch some forgotten stuff, Security hadn’t been passed the message about our booking (back to the old days it seemed!) and Jen wasn’t able to move any furniture by herself because of a recent injury!
Therefore, we only began actually setting up around 10.40am, when the first member turned up.
Once the tables were sorted, and a few technical hitches were resolved, we were ready to go.
We welcomed a couple of new people this month, and they got stuck in throughout the day 🙂
We had a total of 17 people attending, but it was a bit quieter on the “other” side of the room for half the afternoon, as we were one Switch plug short, which meant that when the member who’d loaned his power adapter had to leave early, the big screen was no longer usable (sorry guys, we’ll try and fix that for next time!)
Wariowear also featured a Cosplay Competition. Come as whatever video games character you wish!
We had 4 entries: A Rosalina, A Toothless, A Waluigi, and a Wario!
Our raffle was Mario themed, with the rarer Mario Hat for the league session winner. The ultra limited edition NNW bag was the prize for the best dressed.
As usual, we let everyone mingle a bit first, and some got stuck in with their games.
Round 1 of the Mario Kart League featured the new DLC Wave.
Warioware: Move it! was our featured game of the day. It was all for fun, and we even persuaded the “non gaming” mum to get involved!
Those who played found it VERY random, but everyone seemed to find it fun and crazy!
From the sidelines, a few people weren’t able to the squats properly, so there was a bit of frustration at certain points…
bu-KAW was the audible favourite position to start in. Everyone echoed it when it was announced. It was also great to see references to other Nintendo games, like Zelda (OoT), Super Mario (64), and others!
The first round was “the”Listen to the doctor”. He would announce the pose, then instruct something completely random that also sort of made sense when it moved on to the actual scene.
The second round was the board game: “Galactic Conquest”
Drn kept having the worst luck, by being sent back spaces or even back to the start.
One person managed to swap the entire board round, so the start became the end!
Both groups had “share your points amongst the other players” too…
The second round took longer due to the nature of play.
The final 4 played the “Medusa March” which was quite a quick round, and staying still was proving a challenge!
Drn took the victory for glory!
Onwards to the FINAL ROUND of the league. This league had been running since February and was our first full one since before lockdown (2019). The trophies have been acquired but they will get presented at our Christmas event o 16th December.
The rest of the group was hoping for a tie breaker, but the random number generator had other ideas!
Em, Glyn and John (the top 3) were all in the same group, with Drn as the extra.
The final round was super speedy at 200CC, and the racers didn’t know until the first group sat down!
Two dramatic moments were noted:
Nick just swooping past Paul at the finish line..
To help the rest of the crowd, we allowed auto steering to be on, and John and Drn did just that!
All eyes were on Glyn and Em, suitably dressed in the “correct” characters!

We turn 11 years old next week, and what a great way to mark our 11th year by hearing what a blast our members have at our events <3
I love how shy people feel like they can open up. I love how we have a safe space where people can be themselves. And I love the fact that some people aren’t afraid to get out of their comfort zone in the name of fun! 😉
We of course have one more event this year, and that is the Christmas Event on Saturday 16th December, where we will be presenting the trophies to our winners, and having a Christmas Quiz (and without needing to say: Plenty of fun too!)
