There are many reasons why Jen and Dylan may opt to go to the venue up to an hour before the start time, but this time it was needed, as some of the ceiling tiles had crumbled onto the floor. Special thanks to Rain and Glyn for helping with the clear up! (and Henry the Hoover!)
Once it hit 11am no one was able to tell what we’d seen upon first entry, we’d done an awesome cleanup job, we just hoped it didn’t rain too much during the day!
Today was a special charity event, as we were fundraising for Conwy Mind.
We had a raffle and a “Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar”
We also had Rhodri representing M-SParc, who’d brought along a Welsh Language Game called “Moo Moo Move” for people to try.
On the tailend of the heatwave it was still unbearably hot for some, and some questioned why we would do Samba De Amigo in a heatwave?! We planned the content weeks in advance, but we can’t plan the weather 😉
We let everyone trickle in as usual, and we got started with Mario Kart League Round 1 a bit later than stated as we were waiting for a couple more people.
Round 1 was standard Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The twist here was that the person in the group who currently placed the lowest in the league, could choose their preferred tracks. it was quite varied, but we did see Baby Park pop up a couple of times of course!
There was a small gap for people to nip out for lunch, but we saw a range of games being played in between things.
There was a preview of Vampire Survivors which was requested for next month.
We saw a bit of Moving Out 2, Overcooked, Kao the Kangaroo, Persona, Stick Fight, Horrid Henry & Smash amongst others.
In the “main” room, some had a go at Samba de Amigo ready to compete.
In the middle of the day, we had a short break so that Rhian, the lady from Mind, could talk to us about what they actually did, and show a video about them. It was well received, and members were able to go and chat to her afterwards too.
The main “tournament” for Samba de Amigo was just for fun. The winner got the glory of being the best dancer!
It was great that even those who were less mobile on their feet were able to join in too.
John ended up coming second, even though he didn’t want to “win”!! we had newcomer Elin, who was really in her element with the game!
Round 1 was Hard difficulty on “Move Your Feet”.
The top 8 scorers went through to Round 2, which was “Super Hard” difficulty on “Fist Bump”
From the sidelines we loved the enthusiasm from all of the players!
Down to final 4 for “crazy” difficulty, with “moves Like Jagger”, there was a lot of sliding moves but it up with John and Glyn in the final.
The final was in Show Down Mode – “Celebrate” on Crazy Mode. Glyn won ALL the followers, taking the final victory!
Glyn is now known on our Discord server as “the Samba Superior Sausage” after also winning Sausage Wars a couple of months ago!
We then went on to Round 2 of the Mario Kart League.
Since we were raising money for Mind, we did a coin battle in Mario Kart.
Random tracks, and 4 courses.
John was quite good at protecting his coins, but Glyn was better. We think Em set the record with hoarding 20 coins in one course too!
We had a tie breaker between Glyn and Em at the end. (We did the raffle in between)
Glyn took the session victory! It was great to hear the regulars discussing their league positions as we only have 2 left before the end of our first year post lockdown! Top 3 winners will bag themselves a trophy in the Christmas Event!
We revealed the number of sweets in the jar, but the winner, Rhys, had to leave early, so that was a bit of an anti-climax for a couple of members still present, who were hoping to win.
We ended the day with a group photo. Thanks to the guy who took them 🙂
John put so much effort into Samba De Amigo, he had the best night’s sleep he’d had in ages that night!
And at the end of teatime, we caught a nice sunset on the Menai Bridge 🙂
