It was very unusual for this one, as we broke tradition of taking a break in June, to celebrate the launch of the brand new Switch 2.
Equipped with our shiny new consoles, we headed back to the Wheldon Building to try out some new things.
New things: Basically a whole day of Mario Kart World!
We didn’t have a schedule, it was a free for all, all day, except one thing. We organised a call between Manchester and Basildon, who were holding their events on the same day. We had a time where they all crossed over at 2pm, so that was the entire schedule.
We started the day with my kid having a quick go of Mario Kart, before switching to Welcome Tour.
Cat took the reins there as they didn’t yet have a Switch 2. They enjoyed playing the games that used the mouse function, and also collected a few more stamps for me! We enjoyed some of the humour in the quizzes!
Around lunchtime where most nipped out for food, John and I sat down for my first experience of the multiplayer element of Fantasy Life i. It was quite a long session, but I went up about 20 levels in woodcutting because my level 6 was so inferior to both John’s level and the things we had to chop on the mission! Very enjoyable though!
When the crowd returned, Mario Kart World was back, and stayed for the rest of the day!
At 2pm, right on schedule, we called Manchester and Basildon. Basildon swapped to Andrew (Southend) and we raced through 3 knockout races before Basildon had to drop out as they were concluding their event. We actually managed to get 21/24 players online (I missed the extra one as he dropped in at the last second)
Manchester stayed for one more: a Team vs race (4 races) – Manchester’s 4 against our 11… But Manchester had some strong racers among them!

We signed off after just over an hour on Gamechat, and then a smaller group carried on with battle mode on Mario Kart World until the end of the event.
Most had fun, but if you didn’t have your own Switch 2, it was a bit more challenging to fit in this time. (sorry about that) but we’ll be back to normal with our league/tournament/raffle next month on 12th July, so hopefully see you then!
