We were over in Storiel this time, which gives a little bit more space, so we had slightly more in numbers this time, with a couple of families popping in to check us out. There were pockets of room where people could chill with friends/family, and then the central area where the main games were featured. There was also a larger screen in the back half of the room which leant itself to freeplay all day.
It was a slightly shorter event due to the location, but we didn’t really have a tournament to put on this time. Instead we had a feature showcase for Omega 6 – the Triangle Stars. (Thanks to Clear River Games and Pixel Helix for sharing with us!)
We allowed an hour for sign ups for the league, as well as for people to settle and catch up with friends.
W3 put Omega 6 on and Em got started on it. It’s a visual novel, so there was a chunk of reading to do first.
Meanwhile on the other screen, Dylan tried to do his special Tetris 99 event…
Then we got started with Round 1 of the league. Round1 is always the “Mario Party” of our Party league this year, so this time we returned to the most recent version: Mario Party Jamboree.
Dylan chose 3 mini games for everyone, with the theme of “Rhythm” (Kitchen), so all 3 rounds involved food!
This was 4 players in a group, so we had a nice round number of 16, four fours!
In the gap between league rounds we swapped back to Omega 6 and Em got stuck in again. They got further than I had (I’d got stuck the day before)
When the game had been exhausted for the day, a group of 4 played a board in Mario Party.
On the other screen we saw Vampire Survivors (and Balatro.)
Just after 3pm (we waited for the Mario Party session to finish), it was time for Round 2 of the league. Round 2 is usually a mystery game related to the theme in the first round, and has to be linked to the “party” concept. Therefore the choice was “Samba De Amigo”! The party rhythm game!
This was in pairs, and we started with the smaller kids, so they could have a go with no pressure.
Tal and Twm went first, and they were quite close in scores, but it was more about the fun for this pair.
The rest of the pairs were competing for the 5 points, with the potential for a tie breaker.
There were some high scoring rounds, but at the last pair, one player dropped out so Glyn was left on his own. We gave him the choice “against Jen or Dylan?” He was wavering but ended up choosing Dylan, and beat him with a PERFECT round! I think he was just as shocked as everyone else was!
We ended up with a 2 player tie breaker between Illtud and Cat.
The tie breaker turned into another tie breaker as they got exactly the same score on the whisking game!
So the decider was who could toss the best pancakes! Cat took the victory, her first league session victory in TEN YEARS!
The last thing to do was the raffle. We drew the raffle, and then finished with the group photo.
