Back in the Wheldon again, but this time the room was set out like a conference (chairs in rows with single table at the front) so those who arrived early had a lot of furniture to move!
Most people started drifting in around 11am, with some appearing later and others having to leave earlier. We always say you’re welcome to pop in/not stay for the whole day, but observationally this has meant that sign up numbers for tournaments has dropped more recently.
We had 20 attendees over the day in total, and we started off with some of Indie Game: Tin Hearts from Wired Productions.
It was a gentle way to get started but as Dale was playing through it, towards the end of the session, a little girl in the game said “I’m coming, daddy!” and made Dylan jump because it was so realistic, he thought there was an actual child behind him!!
In the other room, they kicked off the day with some Smash.
We kicked off round 1 of the Mario Kart League quite early this time. Round 1 was on 8 Deluxe, but featured some of the N64 tracks as a hint to Round2.

The usual people came top for that round as expected..
We quickly moved on to “Sausage Wars”. This random game was recommended by Adam of NSG (Nintendo Social Group) and Dylan loves anything to do with sausages, so it had to be done for the name of the event!
It was chaotic, and people were dying all over the place, but there were also clear winners on some rounds, and evenly spread on others! It was a real mix!
Nick didn’t rate the game at all…!
In between things we saw a plethora of games on the “other” screen, and an attempt at playing “Wingspan” on the first screen.
Moving on to the Road to Area Zero Pokémon Qualifier for NPUK…
We only had 6 sign ups, or so we thought… but of those 6, it turned out that only one person actually owned the game! oops!
By the time the tournament was due to start, we had 3 people each with a copy of the game, and we had to tell those without that they weren’t able to enter.
A 3 people tournament didn’t last long! We’d run late with sausage wars, but made the time back quickly!
I’m glad our Pokémon winner had fun regardless though!
Well done to Beck and John who qualified in our session, and go through to the online finals on Sunday 6th August!
It’s always cool when we can use both big screens simultaneously though!
Back to Mario Kart for Round 2 of the league. Some had worked it out, but others hadn’t. Either way, it really shook up the end results! No one got the full 10 points, and 4 people settled on 8 points!
It was the same tracks as round 1, but on the N64 (via Switch Online)
Toad’s Turnpike, Royal Raceway, Yoshi’s Valley, Kalamari Desert.
The last 4 people of course had to race on N64 Rainbow Road!
Em came out top – that must be their 3rd hat by now 😉
Finally, we ended the event with our usual raffle.
The raffle was Mario themed.
and we crossed over into pink raffle tickets from blue:
Everyone loved their prizes (We also had some Manga and a Galaxy themed keyring donated to us, thanks to our members for those!)
Then of course, I made a point this time of NOT forgetting the group photo, although a few had left earlier, and some decided not to be in the photo.
The rest of us did though 🙂
And the last few remaining, got to try a bit of Everybody 1,2, Switch!
We’ll be featuring that more heavily next month, but it was great to see it for the first time. It’s a shame they updated the game to wipe out the photos on screenshots though, as for colour shoot, I couldn’t help but laugh when Rhys took a snapshot of my leggings for one of the attempts and ended up with the highest score!
Beck had to leave before the game was over, but he still managed to bag the MVP spot!!
