Back in Pontio this time, which is a great venue for being more visible. What we hadn’t anticipated was that Urdd was on at the same time, which meant 100s of people in the venue from 9am!
(Urdd is part of the Eisteddfod, and is a Welsh musical and art festival which is a massive part of Welsh Culture!)
Thankfully we had our little corner, which was out of the way of the main hustle and bustle.
There was a manager on duty to help with things like curtains and setup, who we got talking to about gaming and reminiscing about Wifi Wars which had been in Pontio last November.
We started the event promptly at 11.30am with league round 1: Badminton on Mario & Sonic at the Olympics 2020.
After that round, there was a gap for lunch, and it was handy the café (Cegin) right next to us was open for business!
We originally planned to start the Suika Game tournament at 1pm, but the community fancied a game of Mario Kart, so we got a 6 race VS in before the main tournament.
Competition was tough, but we did have some of our best players present!

The tournament was both fun to watch and fun to play. Some people got caught out on the timed round, others were stacking on top without direction to see what happened. I don’t believe anyone achieved making an actual watermelon in the whole tournament though!
Round 1 was the timed one.
Round 2 was the attack one. The final round was every person for themselves. There was a final 3, so we did a Random number generator, and the chosen person (Rhodri) got the screen to themselves, but the other two, Kalub & John shared a screen.
John, throughout the whole tournament, used the “stacking” strategy (If you can call it a strategy!) and ending up winning the tournament. Rhodri was speechless!
He tried the same strategy after the tournament had finished, and beat his own score!!
Back to the league: With the theme of Badminton, we pulled out Switch Sports. There was a lot more activity from the players this time with people properly using their arm muscles!
Somewhere in there we heard “Shuttle Poppycock” shouted by Rain when playing against Beckett. Most of the room laughed, and people just generally had fun!
There’s no pictures of this bit, as previously mentioned, Pontio is a great venue for visibility and I spent most of the round 2, talking to a mum and her son about what we do, and how the son was obsessed with Nintendo! hope to see you guys again 🙂
Because the league this time was a 2 player set up, we only had 5 and 3 points to award, which meant the likeliness of us needing a tie breaker was high. Alas, we’d run out of “badminton” games, so we went back to the Olmypics and did some Archery instead! Newcomer Sean took the session victory, but it also meant that Cat is currently top of the league table! Go Cat!
We decided to do the group photo a bit earlier this time, as a few had to leave early including co-host Dylan.

We managed to get a battle round of Mario Kart in before the raffle.
On and off during the day too, we saw a bit of Just Dance, and had some good music to fill the background with.
We finished off by doing the raffle 🙂
