We decided to have a slightly retro vibe for this event. (Not too retro though mind!)
We also decided to still keep the main event status but have a more chilled day. This meant that we kept the anticipated league session and had a raffle, but the rest of the day was down to freeplay and people playing whatever they liked.
League round 1 didn’t begin until 12 noon, but this was a quick round, even though it was “best of 3.”
Most won 2-0, but it was nice to have an even number for the 2 player game.
Today’s “Olympics” game was Kayaking from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
The last game in the round was Glyn vs Sean though. That was the closest one there was!
After drawing 1-1 in the first two games, the third game could have been anyone’s!
This was a high scoring league round, as everyone either got 5 or 3 points!
There was a large gap next as we didn’t have a main tournament. The most seen game on the big screen was “Just Dance 2022”, but there were various table set ups playing both solo and multiplayer games throughout the day.
At some point Beckett dressed up in a Maid’s outfit…
Just before league round 2, Jen hosted a triple of Tetris Games on the 3DS. We were always grateful for the ability to play via “Download play”.
We got 7 in the room. All 3 times the last people remaining were hosts Jen and Dylan. It ended up being 2-1 to Dylan, as after the first game he was piling the stack of tetris pieces and then swapping boards in the hope Jen would lose quickly! It didn’t work in the 2nd game, but it did in the third game..!
We were just getting ready to set up for League Round 2, which was old classic Mario Kart 7 (3DS)
between us all we only had 2 or 3 copies of the game, but again, grateful for Download play!
Except that one person… Kalub was all set up wondering why they couldn’t connect, when Dylan realised they had the wrong version of Mario Kart. They’d brought a 3DS with Mario Kart DS in it! Download play there too!
There was sights of suika game in the day too, lots of people downloaded that game after the last event!
There was some intent concentration for the Mario Kart 7 round, as we were back to groups of 4 players, allowing for the full scale of points.
And then there was this one 😛
There was always going to be a tie breaker for this session, but it was supposed to be a single race on Mario Kart 7. Dylan hadn’t remembered and set up a cup, but after the first race we declared Glyn the session winner to a bit of confusion (sorry guys! It’s always just one race/round for the tie breaker!)
Occasionally at our events we see some interesting artefacts. Not only was the maid outfit one, but I spotted this fantastic collection of puzzle cubes…
We finished the event with the usual raffle and group picture, but it seemed at least half the room didn’t want to be in the photo this month. Oh well! (by the way if you’re shy, don’t be! Group photos are the safe types of photos, you can half hide behind someone, or like me back in the day, crouch down at the front so you don’t feel as huge…)
It was nice to see a couple of our “day one” members come back to visit us too <3
