Ryan Janes' book on the "most relaxing video games"

Those Summer … N-aaaarghts! 13/07/24

It wasn’t long after we got access to M-SParc on Bangor High Street, that we got Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD set up on the big TV screen. Drn was making his way through the story mode having only purchased the game the previous night!

People started rolling in after 11am, with a couple of earlier guys too. People got comfortable around the big table or by the front door.

Everyone enjoys catching up with friends, so we like to have chance to “mingle” at the start of our events.

We were also showcasing Ryan Janes’ Book “The Most Relaxing Video Games”, of which some of the games surprised a few people! (“how is a horror game a relaxing game?!” )
I was also glad to see Tetris Effect Connected featured, as people were sceptical when I claimed it to be my “chill” game!

Round 1 of the league was the Olympics part, and today’s game was “Discus Throw” – Everyone had to try the practice round first, and some thought it was a bit “out there” in the choices. We try not to repeat ourselves with the game choices in this league, so the link here was “throwing”! Everyone at least got a score despite the challenges!

We had a bit of a gap for lunch then, so people came back with their various pasties or burger king… (handy being more central in town!)

During the day, we saw someone drawing some anime style art, and of course the dancers were out too, as well as good ol’ Suika Game!

We also managed to get a couple of rounds of Mario Kart 8D in too! (no photos of that as we all either joined in, or were out getting lunch)

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD was the tournament, though it was a “just for fun” tournament, so we started with 12 sign ups, hunter mode on “normal” which we whittled down to top 6 based on who had the most “W”.

The second round was hunter mode on “hard” – some teams were definitely more co-ordinated than others!

The final 4 played “Rush Mode” and when the first team reached Floor 4, all the second team had to do was get past Floor 4, so handy they completed it!

We stopped at the final 2, because it was “for fun” and we were running out of time…!

Round 2 of the league was the newly available “Basketball” on Switch Sports. Some seemed to get the hang of it better than others, but everyone had fun playing it! There were whoops and cheers when people scored goals!

We’d run out of time by then, so we did the raffle, then the 5-way tie breaker!

The tie breaker, we returned to the Discus Throw, and Drn came out on top, but did something to his hand… oops!

We ended with a quick group photo selfie!

Today was also a day for wildlife, as there was a seagull standing on one leg just outside the main door for quite a while…. and when we got home there was a random hedgehog on the pavement (Don’t worry we did manage to get him moved somewhere safer!)
