Superstar Party – No Bonfires Please! 06/11/21

Back for our second in person event at ACME games, and we’d increased the capacity slightly.

This time the tickets sold out within 15 minutes of going live, which was amazing, but also caught a few by surprise, so apologies if you missed out this time, and hope you can make the next one instead! 😀

We started out by showing off the new OLED Switch. we brought the dock, but showed off the portable mode with a bit of Animal Crossing.

On the “near” table, one of the regulars was showing off his very fancy lego set!

It wasn’t long before most had arrived though so the screens got set up with Mario Party and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, so there was enough for everyone to get involved. There was also a middle table as a couple of people had 3DSes or wanted to play in portable mode too. A bit of Smash Ultimate was played just before the start of the tournament too.

Halfway through the day, we played our first tournament in a long time. Mario Party was always good for that, so we couldn’t pass up the chance!

Everyone took part (except the hosts of course!) so we had 3 groups of 3 and one 4.

The first round was points based, and whoever had the most points in each of the groups, progressed to the final.
We had 10 mini games, and the highest scores were 5 or 4.
We ended up with 4 for the final! Perfect!

The final 4 got to play one of the board so the participants got to choose which board!

There was an overwhelming response calling for Horror Land, so that’s what we played!

Drn was the strongest most of the way through, but Dan pipped him at the post with the bonus stars!
Poor “Clobasos” though… the world seemed to be against him.. after his first star, bowser nicked it straight back off him! Mini games screwed him over, then to top it off, he had coins taken off of him due to an event space that someone else landed on!
Dan came out on top though, so he won a gift card for ACME games!
After the tournament we did the raffle so that anyone who needed to go could go, as we wanted to try Tetris Effect on the OLED before we left!

John won the star prize Build-a-Bear Snorlax!

There were plenty of prizes for the taking though, including a couple of donated prizes from regular members. (Thanks for those!)

We think that the Christmas raffle will probably be wrapped up prizes, as it was great fun back in 2019!

Still no group pictures yet due to the space and situation, but hopefully soon!

We finished the day by having a bit of Warioware on the “far” screen, and Tetris Effect on the “near” screen.

Those playing Tetris were still going until 17:30! Jen was determined to try “very hard” mode while locals/friends were available, as the online random players aren’t always very team orientated! Alas we died on the third boss, but there was some good synergy going on!
