Lylat Landing at Pontio 15/08/26

Back in Pontio for this one, but Dylan was setting up solo, as I had to be somewhere else first thing! Once I got there, everything was ready to go (except the raffle book!) It was nice to see a couple of new faces already settled in watching the regulars play Starfox on the big screen.

Starfox was our featured game for this event, so it was nice to see people utilising the GameShare element, including sharing across to Switch 1!

At 12pm, it was time for round 1 of the league. Mario Kart Double Dash from the Gamecube was up first. It was battle mode though to mix it up a bit.

People could choose any characters and had to randomise the course, but the system kept choosing Cookie Land! It became a running joke after a few groups encountered the same thing.

We did 3 rounds of battles, so battle 2 and 3 couldn’t choose the same stage that had already happened. (Just had to press random until it didn’t choose Cookie Land!)

After league round 1 was a gap where people could nip out for lunch, or to explore the summer festival that was happening in the centre of Bangor. Starfox came back out, but not before Splatoon Raiders made an appearance John, Drn and Dylan worked as a team on Raiders, but Dylan was quite far ahead in progress, so given that this is our featured game for next month’s event (12th September) hopefully more people will have time to catch him up!

Round 2 began just after 2.30pm. As soon as the Donkey Konga bongo drums came out, there was a loud cheer from the room! We had to feature it at some point, given this year’s theme is RHYTHM & Mario!

This round was in pairs, and the criteria was one round, of any song that was 3 bananas. Most pairs chose “All Star” but one pair chose “Trepak” and another pair chose “Are you ready for love”. Dylan left the room at some point, and said that he could tell what song people chose based on how they were hitting the drums!

The rock paper scissors bit at the end caught some out though, and skewed the points the “other way”.

The tie breaker went 3 ways, so back we went to Double Dash. Battle with bombs! It was a quick one as Em got lucky really soon into the game on, you guessed it, Cookie Land!

There was an hour left for freeplay, but by about halfway through the day, a few kids had appeared, so it was nice to see them playing various things on the big screen together, both amongst themselves and with John briefly as a guide.

We finished the day with our usual raffle and group photo.

The raffle featured an ultra limited edition branded Tote Bag (the only one ever produced!)

Thanks to dad Osian for taking the group photo 🙂
