Tokyo 2020, the cover picture for the Mario and Sonic Game

The Feb-Bull-ary Event 16/02/24

We were back in Wheldon for this month, so back to two sides, two big screens, plenty of space.

We set up the usual side with the showcase of Mario vs Donkey Kong. It seemed that Dylan and John were determined to get through a whole world playing it co-op, so although a couple watched in the background, it was mainly just those two!

Our league started today as well.

This year is themed around the Olympics, but because there’s been no mention of the 2024 game, we had to revert back to 2020! (It’s not like that one got used properly anyway)

We decided to “replay” the league session from February 2020 with the “mystery” game, so anyone who remembered ( or looked back at the blog) could work out what it was 😉

First up though was the actual game from the Olympics, so this time we went with the 110m Hurdles. We had 9 signups, so 3 groups of 3. Everyone got a practice run first so they understood the controls.

We over estimated the time quite significantly though, as we’d technically allowed 2 hours for something which took about 10 minutes. But that allowed for a lot of chatting and freeplay, plus people could nip out for lunch if they wanted to.

There were a couple of guys playing a skipping game in the corner…

and on the bigger screens, we saw Smash, Mario Kart 8, Just Dance and a bit of practice for Bullion. (and more!)

Finally, it was time for the actual Bullion Tournament.
Recently released just the week before, we were showcasing the game for Indie developer Ben P of Leda Entertainment.
People were mainly bemused but a little bit frustrated about how the game played.

We made sure to write down the feedback to pass it on, there’s a patch coming soon 🙂

We had 9 sign ups for this tournament too, so we took the top 1 from each group of 3, then the highest scoring 4th player for our final 4. The top 4 won a Bullion pin badge.
The winner of the Tournament (Drn) won a code for the game.

There was quite a lot of laughs because everyone kept dying in the lava. Someone couldn’t find his grave to revive himself at one point. And at another point, a player couldn’t get away from being beaten up by monkeys!

We tried quite a few of the stages and explored the different landscapes offered. People generally liked the idea and artistry, but we look forward to that much needed patch!

We played round 2 of the league next. Must Dash Amigos was the game. Quite a few of the members were in attendance in 2020, but most only remembered it when they started playing it! That created quite a few laughs, and the person at the back asking why they randomly turned into Avocados! (Gwack-a-mole, duh!)

No one actually scored the full 10 points this session, so two with 8 points battled it out: Cat vs Drn.
Drn took the victory: An ARMS stress boxing glove, and a fiver! 😛

The raffle star prize was the Bowser shell, and there were a few treats to win this time!

(We had sets of Bullion stickers for anyone who wanted one)

We actually ended the event half an hour ahead of schedule so one of our members could catch his bus on time. We didn’t forget the group photo this time though 🙂

And those that wanted to hang around a bit longer, got on Just Dance one more time too!

Thanks all who made it to the event! Our next one is March 16th, and we’ll be back in Pontio again!
